"They don’t treat me as if
I am different – they accept me
for who I am."

Program Types (Glossary)

High-support Housing
High-support housing provides 24-hour support for youth, adults and seniors whose mental or physical challenges prevent them from living independently. They include individuals with a wide array of support needs as diverse as personal care, medication management, nutrition and recovery. Staff are available, usually on-site, and able to respond to client needs 24 hours a day. LOFT’s high-support housing includes boarding homes, group homes and apartment buildings.

Low-support Housing
LOFT provides low-support housing for youth and adults who are moving toward independence and for adults and seniors requiring limited support to live independently. Although staff contacts are available 24-hours in case of emergency, low-support housing clients live with greater independence, and services are provided in response to individual needs. LOFT provides low-support housing in small, shared homes, rooming houses, and blocks of apartments.

Community Support for Independent Living
Community Support teams provide services to a large number of individuals living independently throughout the community. These clients receive services that may include assistance with medical and personal care, meal preparation, light housekeeping, or ongoing counselling.

Street Outreach
In York Region, the Crosslinks Street Outreach van forms the vital hub of the region’s homeless network, connecting about 1,000 people a year to the housing and support services they so desperately need.
