Bill’s Story of Belonging

Bill, a member of our seniors’ community. is a resident of LOFT’s Bradford House, a home north of Toronto that is tailormade for at-risk seniors. Bradford House is much more than a roof over Bill’s head – for him, it’s a lifeline.

Bill has been a part of the LOFT community since 2003. The support he receives at Bradford House—from help with daily tasks to financial management—has given him stability. The little things, like being able to visit his sister, make a big difference in his life.

By opening access to more supportive housing with wraparound services, LOFT has helped Bill find a sense of belonging.

At LOFT, we understand the connection between homelessness, mental health and addiction. Without holistic treatment targeting all three, people of all ages can find themselves in a chronic state of crisis. Access to basics like housing and vital care is becoming increasingly difficult for those facing complex physical and mental health challenges, addiction, and homelessness.

A recent study by the Canadian Medical Association Journal reports that homelessness is on the rise for older adults. According to Canada’s National Shelter Study, the number of older people staying in shelters has doubled in recent years and has been on the rise since the pandemic.

Because of our generous supporters, Bill and other seniors in the LOFT community are able to enjoy a life of independence and dignity.
